This is a close-up of a portion of a banner created in 2008 for Zion Lutheran Church, Cloverdale, Minnesota, USA. The work is textiles which I cut and sew. Many denominations of the Church follow a liturgical year which specifies the color for each season of the Church Year. Since this work is meant to hang year-round in the sanctuary, it includes the five liturgical colors: red, green, blue, gold (for white), and purple. The three interlocking circles are a traditional symbol for the Holy Trinity.
A number of bands of strip-pieced fabric are hints at pathways we take on our life journey. Life is complex and so is the work. But if we are people of faith, our lives are centered in the love of God, the life of Jesus, and the gift of the Holy Spirit, (the Enabler).
