Luke Bretherton

Luke Bretherton is Canon and Regius Professor of Moral and Pastoral Theology at Christ Church, University of Oxford. Prior to Oxford, he was the Robert E. Cushman Distinguished Professor of Moral and Political Theology at Duke University. His latest book is What Is Political Theology? Co-authored with Vincent Lloyd and Valentina Napolitano (Columbia University Press, 2025). His other books include A Primer in Christian Ethics: Christ and the Struggle to Live Well (Cambridge University Press, 2023) and Christ and the Common Life: Political Theology and the Case for Democracy (Eerdmans, 2019). He also hosts Listen, Organize, Act!, a podcast that focuses on the history and contemporary practice of democratic organizing and the role churches play in forms of grassroots, democratic politics.
