This “match drawing” is entitled Memory. The installation is made entirely of wooden matches that have been burned and inserted into the wall on a series of arcs. The piece was first created in November 2009. The dimensions are 26′ x 10′ x 2.5″.

After first seeing this installation, people were often struck by the quantity of matches and how the whole image from a distance appeared faint and undefined. Viewers were then struck by the complex shadows cast on the wall. This work invites the viewer to contemplate the individual as it relates to the whole. For me, the work reflects a longing I have to see the city of God and the Church as a whole body. It is a way of contemplating the body of Christ by using a different metaphor than the one used by the Apostle Paul in 1st Corinthians.
