Found glove, goldleaf, paint, photograph, wooded frames
2008
Widows & Orphans: Workman’s Glove is part of a series in which a found object is presented alongside documentation of its source. The two, image and object, are juxtaposed in two handcrafted and gold-detailed wooden frames meant to set both apart as “high art objects”. Lost articles on the street always elicit a feeling of sympathy in me. They are pitiable, as objects that have no meaning, being only one of a pair, lost or discarded as useless. The glove in this work was a throwaway glove that comes in a three pack. It was recovered from the gutter, cleaned and adorned lavishly to give the object, so useless before, a new and higher purpose than ever originally intended.
