Janis Balda

Dr. Janis Bragan Balda is Professor of Management at the Centre for Advancing International Management (AIM Centre) at St. George’s University, where she also directs the specialty management degree program initiatives. Dr. Balda established the Peter F. Drucker Society of the Caribbean at SGU and leads research efforts in total health management in collaboration with the Windward Islands Research and Education Foundation [WINDREF].

Dr. Balda was formerly a professor at George Fox University, teaching and researching in international management. She created GFU’s Brazil program for MBA students, consults on organizational issues for a number of international organizations, and travels widely in her various roles.

She formerly worked as in-house legal counsel for World Vision International, as a consultant to The Peter F. Drucker Graduate Management Center for development of nonprofit management, and with The Peter F. Drucker Archives and Manuscript Project. She also served for nine years on the board of Medical Assistance Program (MAP) International and for 6 years on the board of Mt. San Antonio Gardens, a non-profit, nationally recognized Life Care senior community.

Since 1978, Dr. Balda has been in private law practice, researching, writing and speaking on issues affecting international, religious, and nonprofit organizations. She has served two terms on the California State Bar Committee on Nonprofit Organizations and Unincorporated Associations, has published various articles, and speaks regularly about legal issues affecting nonprofits. She has lectured at The Drucker School, Claremont School of Theology, La Verne University School of Law, and Hope International University on organizations, legal issues, and management, and has published various academic and popular articles in these areas.

Balda holds a Ph.D. in management education from Claremont Graduate University, the M.A. in Management from the Drucker School of Management, Claremont Graduate University; the Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, and LLM from Cambridge University, England; and the M.A. in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary, as well as a B.A. in political science from Taylor University.
