Knut Heim

Rev. Dr. Knut Heim is a Presbyter in the Methodist Church of the United Kingdom and Tutor in Old Testament at Trinity College Bristol, UK. He teaches a range of courses on the Old Testament / Hebrew Bible, including Old Testament Introduction, biblical Hebrew, the book of Isaiah and the Psalms.

He has a passion for the poetic books of the bible and his new book, Poetic Imagination in Proverbs (Eisenbrauns, forthcoming) is due for publication in the near future. This technical book explores the nature of biblical poetry, especially the imaginative force and meaning of poetic parallelism. He also completed a book on the history of the interpretation of personified wisdom in the book of Proverbs, from biblical times until the present day. This book, entitled Lady Wisdom: A Portrait Through Time, explores the beauty and transformative power of poetic imagery in the Bible.

His vision is to help students discover the Old Testament as a resource for ministry and an inspiration for life. He writes: “The poetry of the Bible has changed my theology and my life. In it I have discovered a God who creates, saves, and sustains—today. Here I have found faith, hope and love.”

Knut is married to the Rt. Revd. Hannah Faal-Heim, Bishop-Elect of the Methodist Church, The Gambia, West Africa.
